ANCHORAGE PARKS REPORT CARD

Friends and Neighbors,

One of Anchorage’s best assets is its extensive park system and I wanted to let you know about an opportunity to help set its future course. This month the Parks & Recreation Department is compiling an Anchorage Park Report Card, by asking residents to evaluate their neighborhood parks on the basis of cleanliness, safety, functionality, and appearance.

Talking with Parks & Rec workers at the Day of Caring at the Fairview Lions Park last year. The Lions Park is one of the parks in our community that residents can evaluate as part of the Report Card.

The Report Card asks residents about the condition of parks and what role they play in the community. Are the benches clean and safe? Are the lawns green and well-maintained? Is there graffiti on the playground equipment? Participants will also be asked to fill out a “Fix It List” for their neighborhood park. Is a swing broken on the play set? Are the signs falling down? The results will be used to create work plans for the park maintenance staff, and to establish construction priorities for the Summer 2009 construction season.

More information about the Report Cards can be found at AnchorageParkFoundation.org, or by contacting Kelly Meeker at the Municipality of Anchorage at 343-4740 or meekerKK@muni.org. I encourage you to take advantage of this opportunity to set the course of our park system for years to come!

        Until next week,

      [signed]

        Senator Johnny Ellis
