Senators Ellis, McGuire Named to Anchorage Economic Development Board
(ANCHORAGE) – Senate President Gary Stevens (R-Kodiak) has appointed two members of the Senate Bipartisan Working Group to serve as ex-officio members of the Board of Directors of the Anchorage Economic Development Corporation (AEDC). In a letter sent last Friday to Bill Popp, the Executive Director of AEDC, Senator Stevens named Senator Johnny Ellis (D-Anchorage) and Senator Lesil McGuire (R-Anchorage) to the board. The AEDC is a private, non-profit organization that has been in operation since 1987, whose mission is to encourage growth and diversity in the Anchorage economy. Its board includes 29 business and industry leaders, along with 21 ex-officio members who represent the legislature, the municipality and other civic organizations. “I am honored to have the opportunity to serve Alaska’s biggest city and most important economy as a member of this board,” said Senator Ellis. “AEDC does important work in encouraging economic development in Anchorage and around the state.” “The health of the economy of Anchorage is vital to the health of the region and the state as a whole,” said Senator McGuire. “I look forward to working with leaders in our economic development as a member of this board.” Senators McGuire and Ellis will begin their terms as ex-officio members of the board on January 1, 2010.
